My jeep an snow

So today i went to burger king that was up the road for breakfast, and i took a corner and got side ways because of the snow, so some one tell me why the **** would jeep make a rwd jeep cherokee?

BigBear 10-17-2011 01:15 AM

If it was snowing why didn't you have it in 4wd or part time.

The rear wheel drive is best for torque.

You are getting "pushed" not "pulled"

carpathia 10-17-2011 01:25 AM

thats why I put 10 psi more in the front than the rear on highway use save a heck amount on gas

mrfajita 10-17-2011 01:30 AM

I only use 4x4 in the snow if I am stuck or in traffic. Otherwise I just feather the throttle to avoid slipping, or hit it for the hell of it and do snow drifts or donuts

130mph+cherokee 10-17-2011 01:30 AM

Well its doesnt have any full time or part time awd and ill try the psi diffences but up Here in alaska the snow never gets plowed so it turns to ice but it might help for a bit. Oh and on top of it all the damn retards who owned it before me pulled the fuses for the anti locking brakes that was fun last winter... Bastards.

NorCalJeep 10-17-2011 01:32 AM

get dem chains out

Is it even 4x4? LOL otherwise yea get them chains out.

I only bought my Jeep for the snow in the first place so it needed to be 4x4.

carpathia 10-17-2011 01:40 AM

snow drifts...man I do miss Michigan here in new mexico they close the roads with a paper thin amount of snow on the roads and people that drive out here is fun to watch when during the "snow" fall

Put more weight in the back.. a tote full of sand is good. Plus it will also be great if you get stuck in snow. Also drive slower.

The 4wd setting is not made for on pavement use...

And youre wearing your tires quicker.... and your sacrificing handling. Dont do this.

If youre referring to ABS brakes the previous owner did you a favor. I refuse to drive a car in the snow equipped with ABS.

Good time to get a Jeep with a 242...

x2 on that one.

And the Part-Time 4WD CAN be used on pavement - it's not meant for DRY pavement use. If the pavement is wet - snowing, raining, aka allowing slippage - then it's alright.

Front wheel drives pull the car through the snow which is the safest way. ever seen sled dogs pulling the sled, same concept.

RWD pushes and the rear of the truck gets going faster than the front, thus spin out. either use the 4x4 to get a "bite" on the road, or slow down in RWD, or buy a Prius.

drifting is the best part about winter, going sideways will make a man out of you.

This thread is full of awesomeness.

Synyster 10-17-2011 09:02 AM

I just bought a 4wd Jeep for the winter. Should I use 4hi for the heavy snow? Our biggest snow storm usually gets us 3-4 feet. What about the slushy/nasty stuff?

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 09:08 AM

4hi

CherokeeChick 10-17-2011 09:35 AM

Use four low for going slow and getting Un stuck! And for just driving around use four high.. When I got my jeep I hadn't driven a 4x4 in a couple years forgot about what rear wheel drive did! I was turning left at a busy intersection in the core I had lots of time to make the turn but you know when you slide around a corner and you have that sort of hang time till your rear end catches up to you? Crap that almost gave me a heart attack!!! And I was like oh yeah I used to think this stuff was fun!! Ha ha still do nothing like driving side ways down your street!

Synyster 10-17-2011 09:38 AM

Its been a while since Ive been in 4wd too. I watched videos of XJ's in the snow and they seemed to do well. Are they a capable snow storm vehicle with the 4wd/bigger all terrain tires?

Agent_Oragnge 10-17-2011 09:47 AM

if you don't drive in the snow often go to a parking lot (empty) and do some donuts. lean how your rig is going to handle/spin out/slip at what speed and what range of turning. plus it's fun as H E double hockey sticks

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 09:47 AM

Yes.

Your right... U should have bought a front wheel drive jeep?!?!

Specialy if your going 130+ miles per hour!

Lol

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 10:14 AM

How well do these cherokees do in snow? I've driven fwd and rwd in the snow belt of ohio. How often are you guys putting it in 4hi?

carpathia 10-17-2011 12:34 PM

HA!

They do great, esp with good tires.

Situation dictates use of 4wd in my eyes.

carpathia 10-17-2011 12:40 PM

they are good but it also depends on knowing what you are doing and how but who am I to say nothing really goes on out here so im going to shut up now

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 12:45 PM

Snow is a blast. I look forward to it every year.

1plunk 10-17-2011 01:09 PM

Last winter we had two snowstorms in a week, back to back, and they couldn't keep up with plowing the roads so I just left mine in 4wd the whole week, that was some s**ty milage (below 10mpg, and my rig was stock then).

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 01:13 PM

Jeeze. That's really bad. I would think that points to other problems...

Greenfishinkayak 10-17-2011 01:20 PM

Aaagh still a couple months till we start getting serious snow here :( always my favorite time to drive :) I only use 4hi if I start sliding all over otherwise I leave it in 2hi and tool around :)

Jim_K 10-17-2011 01:28 PM

I only put it on 4hi once I cant move anymore :boxing:

xj wheeler 10-17-2011 01:28 PM

You guys are lucky. Its been two years since we got any snow and that was really not worth mentioning. I love snow!

Gee oh Dee 10-17-2011 01:29 PM

Take a road trip.

xj wheeler 10-17-2011 01:39 PM

Wait, hold on. It might be snowing out... Let me check...

I was in PR getting married the one time we got a massive storm. It wasn't cool.
