Default My Jeep HATES the water.

I was driving around today in the rain going to get food and such drove through a couple puddles and man my jeep hates that. Sputters and spits for a while then goes away. Im guessing dist is getting wet or something.

It just plain hates the wet weather though lol.

typically when that happens, it's from water getting on your serpentine belt and making it slip.

I understand the belt slipping cause of rain and op said it does squeal but causing sputtering??? I'm not sure on that... I would think that with a properly charged battery and even with the belt completely off the vehicle it would run fine except no power steering and no water pump, so in a while it would overheat and it would be tough to turn and the alternator wouldn't charge but a little slippage should just cause a squeal not the sputtering... I would lean toward the distributor cap and where the wires connect to the cap... sealing it with silicone and using plenty of di-electric on the wires should help quite a bit... my buddies jeep did that exact thing and going through big water holes would completely stall him out... but generally it's the reason why the older jeeps with distributors have a little more trouble going through the water holes compared to the distibutorless ignition newer models... seal it up and you may have better luck with puddles and rain...

mine occasionally does the same thing but i have my distributor sealed and my wires all di electric greased someone suggested on another thread tho that it could be the alternator getting wet or something like that
o well mine stops doing that once it all dries out so im not too worried haha
