Default my Exhaust has suction...

hey guyus i just bought a 2000 xj for 1700 buck god dam steal to me. but it has problems it has two bad injectors and throttle positioning sensor it misfires horrible and when i stick my hand to the exhaust it has suction just wondering if thats normal with the problems i have or if its something else... thanks

hold a piece of paper near the tailpipe to be 100% sure it is sucking, it will get sucked right to the pipe if it is.
It could be a few things some mentioned above.

If you have a valve failure then its serious... for it to be sucking in enough to be noticable means every one of your vlaves are shot.. otherwise the remaining chambers would be pushing enough to make it not noticable. My gues would be more than just one jump on timing but rather almost complete rotation of the timing.

daaaamm well thanks guys ill see what the injectors do and then if it still acts up i guess ill just buy a head

Do a compression test and see what you have in each cylinder.

BTW, I read that the early XJ V6s really sucked. LOL!

A compression test is a great idea, as is a cylinder leak down test.

The 84-86 XJs had a GM 2.8 v6 that was a leaky pile of crap that actually had less horsepower than the fuel injected 4 cylinder.

gonna tell you right now that injectors are not going to cause suction in the exhaust. it's a valve train issue of some kind. Sounds like your exhaust valves are not closed when the engine first starts it's intake stroke. or you're not really having suction at the exhaust.

well thank you so much for the info i did the injectors today but need a couple morre o rings so ill see what happens when shes all togeather thanks again

are their any valve noises that would go along with this problem like chattering or anything. oh and when i took the injectors out thhe had a little oil on them
