Default My dual battery idea.. What do you think?

So heres my idea... Run extra battery cables off my main battery to a different location, maybe through the fire wall, under the trim panels by the floor to the trunk area. But run my extra batter in a parallel circuit. And maybe upgrade my Alternator. What do you guys think? Ill make a picture here soon.

you cant have a 24v system in a jeep. you need to have an isolator installed. 1) safety 2) 12v system

hey man no worries I want to make sure you do it safely!

you can upgrade your alt altho it is no needed.

a battery isolator is exactly that it isolates the 2 batteries meaning that charge can go to each battery but they cannon come back and be come a 24v system, it makes sure that you have 2 functioning 12v stand alone batteries and I would even make sure you wire a cut off switch switch for the second battery if is going to be in the vehicle.

if you do run the second battery in the trunk remember you can but you wil need bigger battery cable to combate voltage drop over the distance, like a 2ga or a 0ga cable

If the batteries are hooked up in a parrall curcuit it will never become a 24v system you would need to hook the batteries up in a series curcuit to to be 24v ( connecting one batteries positive to the others negative). So to the OP your drawing would work just you would have longer battery time with out charging. The battery isolator does exactly what it is called. It isolates batteries to certain electrical systems. One battery for running your OEM electrical and the other for example running your light bar or any other electrical accesories you might add on. When the jeep is not running and key is off the light bar will only draw from one battery, leaving the other one fully charged to start and run you jeep. So instead of your whole system being discharged only the battery for your light bar is dead and you wont need a jump to get your jeep started again. Once running the alt will start to recharge both batteries. Hope this helps!

So you think I can run my system in a paralell or should I just go with the isolator and such?

If you are going to attach all of your electrical accesories (fog lights, amp for subs or other things that can draw alot of power) to a deicated battery then i would use the isolator. but if you are going to just run all of it from the jeeps oem battery or fuse box then I would just tie it in parallel. but its all up to you and what you want to do.

Well i want to be able to keep the secondary battery charged. And last me about the same lift time as the main... So i think i should go isolator... But what is the benefit to it ? Does it do something special ?

like stated it allows you to run all acc. and keep the main battery charged so you can start it right up.

it is also a much better option IMHO
