Sorry for the duplicate post. I am still getting the hang of the app. It is very touchy, at least on my phone. Anyway, here is our 2001 Cherokee. It is actually my wife's. She has had it from day one. It was at one point our 3rd and back up vehicle. I totaled my Audi a4 last Summer which was my daily driver. I now drive this everyday. It has 134k miles. I'm not going to lie, it has been neglected for quite some time but now since I will be driving it daily I am putting more time and money into it. I am doing a full coolant flush and flushing heater core on Saturday. I have to get an inspection Saturday morning which it is going to fail since the tires are pretty much shot and have dry rotted. My wife really likes the Jeep for sentimental reasons of course. It has been her only vehicle. I detailed it last Saturday in and out. It hasn't looked this good in years. I did notice some rust between door jams and under the seats. I'm not too worried about that at the moment. I had fun detailing this thing and bringing it back to life of sorts. Now it's time to put some money into this thing. I am thinking of putting a Rough Country 3 inch lift on it. I don't hate the stock wheels so I imagine I will keep those and just eventually buy bigger tires after I put the lift on. I really like the look of the roof racks. I could see adding that down to the road also. Anyway, I'm sure I'm boring most of you. I'm just really excited to give this Jeep some much needed attention

Before pitting a lift I would replace all cooling system components. The 2001 model is known to crack the head if the system isn't up to par. Even then it still might crack.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked the coolant the other day and it had about and inch or so of thick brown sludge. It was nasty. I have never seen anything like that in my life

The cooling system maintenance in these vehicles is paramount. Especially on the 00-01 models with the 0331 casting. Overheating basically guarantees it will crack.
The newest one of these vehicles is 16 years old. I think it is almost a right of passage for an XJ owner (especially an 00-01 owner) to overhaul the cooling system. In fact it was the first thing I did when I purchased mine at 132K.
That means, new radiator, water pump, fan clutch, t-stat, and upper/lower hoses. I also opted to upgrade the belt to a premium Continental Poly-V belt. I would also recommend purchasing a Kriket belt tension gauge to make sure you torque the belt to the proper tension when it's all done.
Was my rig overheating? Nope. It did have temp creep at idle/stop lights. Your 2001 owner and your rigs cooling system can't be neglected. I wanted to bring mine up to snuff. Good luck.
Edit: I should also mention, I HIGHLY recommend the you use Mopar OEM replacements for all parts. They are all high quality. The aftermarket stuff doesn't seem to cut it when it comes to cooling system components.

Thanks Curry. I will definitely use OEM parts. Thanks for the info. Very useful and that will be the first thing I do after that tires Saturday. Thanks again

Update on the coolant leak. My mechanic said I am losing coolant through the heater core hose. Can someone here find me the correct part number or link for this hose? I want to put the new hose on. Do a complete coolant flush and refill along with flushing the heater core. Then I will fill with all fresh coolant and see how long it takes for the coolant to return to the brownish sludgy consistency. Ultimately I want to do the complete coolant overhaul. I'm just curious how long coolant will take to sour again. Thanks again in advance
