MPG Maintence work for the future
Hi guys, been driving the Jeep regularily since I got the coolant issue fixed, but I'm still getting crap mileage. I ran a can of seafoam through the gas tank, and I'm going to run another 1/3 through the vacuum line, and then possibly the oil (still undecided, I've read the horror stories, but I also had a lot of sludge come out last time, might just want to do it to help clean that out...)
Anyways, I'm still getting about 11/12 mpg city and 16 or so highway. I know I'm not exactly driving a Prius here, but I'm making sure I keep it at 2k RPM (auto tranny) and not driving like a damned maniac. New air filter about a month ago (and that did gain about 1-2 mpg increase.)
What's next? It's stuff I need to put on the never ending list, under "Get new speakers" and "fix fog lights" as well as "get job," but what else?
Fuel injectors are on there, but a new fuel pump and filter? Am I missing something? Or am I just overthinking it. I still feel like 12 city is horrendous, even for an XJ.
EDIT: This is a stock XJ, too. 235 tires on there, A/Ts, but that's it.

Do you have a check engine light on? Maybe an O2 sensor? Make sure your tires are inflated properly and blah blah blah with the typical stuff like the tire pressure. Also, what kind of gas are you putting in? Is it some no name company with cheap gas? That could do it. I'm not saying put premium or really even mid grade just quality gas.
I don't know if that helps just trying to think out loud for ya!

No check engine. Tires properly inflated, etc. I am using Indian res gas, but it is 35 cents cheaper... Might look into a different station.

If you can, try to get non ethanol gas. My 03 GC v8 was getting 16-20 highway with regular and now 23-26 with no ethanol.

Yeah ethanol doesn't burn as efficiently as regular gasoline which is why we usually don't see the gas mileage the dealer says on any vehicle. Because they're using 100% gasoline. I think I just read on another post about how they switched to the 5.0 mustang fuel injectors and got better gas mileage and a better throttle response.
