I got my Jeep from an old lady. She took good care of it. She washed it twice a week and kept it in the garage. It was her daily driver and she only wanted 4WD for winter driving. She said it had never been off road since she's had it. The body has no rust on it at all. I have found that the floor pan in the passenger rear seat is rusted out, so I'll have to fix that. I doubt she even knew about it. She had the oil changed regularly at a local shop her friend's son owned. He told her to use AmsOil, and she did. She had the Jeep 10 or 11 years, until she retired. She then took a check she got from her retirement, made down payment on a new Liberty because she wanted an automatic, and gave the XJ to her deadbeat 24 year old nephew that lives with her.
He put a couple of pretty good dents in it and did some damage to the interior. She got ticked about how he was treating it and told him he had to get a job by summer or say adios to the Jeep. True to her word, she sold the Jeep when he didn't get a job. She said every bit of damage to the Jeep has happened in the last 8 months. He also removed the stereo, so I have a new one ordered I can plug my iPhone into.

I plan on keeping on with the AmsOil. I've been using it in our other vehicles already, anyway. It has a list of things I need to do. THe clutch isn't the greatest. I had to replace the condenser. I'm doing a seeping pinion seal on the rear diff this weekend. The cruise doesn't work. I'm sure that's a vacuum line some where. The suspension is sagging big time. The steering wheel is all chewed up. Someone stripped out the adjustment screw in the driver's side headlight. It points almost straight down. I gotta fix that soon.
High mileage is no problem if you keep the engine clean inside. Good oil, and filters make a huge difference, IMHO.

LOL. I've been really surprised by my mileage after hearing most folks on the forums complain about their mileage. I guess, though, the fact that I've got the stock 215/75R15 tires on it, a manual tranny, and I drive like an old granny most of the time helps. 62 or so on the highway. I'm sure the synthetic oil is a factor. Also, the A/C isn't working. It's in the shop today getting a new condenser and charged back up. I'm sure that once I start running that A/C, it'll pull the engine down a little and cost me some mileage. I plan on a three inch lift and 31 inch tires. I'm sure I'll take a significant mileage hit when that happens, too.

Sounds like that lady really liked her XJ! Well, it sounds like you have some work ahead, but you'll probably take care of it, and it'll last you another 200k miles!

Rescued my Jeep from some people who totally trashed it, but it's got 323,000+ and still runs strong. Had to replace a few minor components, but I'd buy another Jeep with the 4.0L any day!

rubbing 140k i think. only major thing i did was after i got it, got plugs, wires, oil filter and oil. gave it a major improvement, concindering the oil pan nut still had the factory sealent around it. still runs strong, just heating up more than usual and she has a attitude when i mention having other rig parts hauled in it.
I've got pretty low miles for a '96, just over 120K, but the previous owner trashed the heck out of it. Just replaced the distributor shaft and am getting ready to replace fuel pump, water pump, oil sending unit, headliner, etc, etc, etc.

My 94 has 255k. 5 speed, 6 cylinder, 4x4, Sport. Gets 20 MPG for last two fill ups.
Bought it two weeks ago. Changed engine oil, transer case and front axle. Cleaned intake with Seafoam :-) The rear axle fill plus doesn't look like you put a wrench or key in it to take it off. WTF? Searching...
