May be able to get a 98 grand cherokee for cheap
Needs a trans but has 120k on it and am told by the owner it has the 4.0 but want to know about the v-8, is it a durable engine and with 120k on the clock would it last till I get it rebuilt. It's a limited, leather, heated seats, sunroof ect. Guy says 1200.00 for it. It's 4 wheel drive, body is good. Any info would be helpful, I have never had one nor have I read up on them till now.

I don't know much about the V8's in those things but what I do know is $1200 for a vehicle that doesn't drive is outrageous (especially one as common as a Jeep).
At least for me it is.
I'd talk him down at least $400 before I would even consider a deal.

It runs and will move if ya put tranny fluid in it, just leaks out rather quickly. But if I'm taking the trans out to replace a seal then I'll have it rebuilt while it's out.

No no, talk him DOWN $400. Pay something like $800. Then again that's just me.
I bought two XJ's recently. $1,400 and $1,600. Both ran like tops, not a thing wrong with them. Both in great shape. Both with low miles.
These things are everywhere. Finding a better deal is always a possibility.

I wouldn't give 1200 for it. Grands have chrysler tranny's in them anyway that are known for going out.

Anyway though, what year is the prospect? They offered a 4.7, 5.2, and 5.9 I believe. That'll let us know what V8 it might have. If we know that, searching for info won't be so cluttered.

I can almost bet a grand at best is what he will take. If the trans was fine it books for 3300.00. Knock off a thousand for the trans rebuild and if I pay 1000 for it it's still below book I have into it. I plan to try to get em lower of corse but I always plan for the worst. I'm going to look closer at it this weekend. Have to work all week lol. Anyway yes the body is mint, tho could use a wax, and it has a 2" rip in the drivers seat.
