i have a super 44 with 2.5" cat back. i also have a walker stock dia. down pipe, but it doesnt have the pre-cat. that along with a high flow cat you can actually hear the stock cam lope. it sounds awesome. the spr 40 & 44s are the deepest muffler i've heard.
magnaflow sucks. i've had it and it wasnt loud enough unless you got on it. mine has a deep rumble @ idle that you can hear. Fyi...i'm 41..by far not a kid.lol. my next muffler will either be a flow spr40 or spr 10. but the 10's tend to be alittle pitchy. so it will prolly be the spr 40. its deeper and has a bigger case than the spr 44. spr44s are 9x4 case and spr40s are 10x5. there you have it. my 2cents.
sorry. i dont mean to offend you magnaflow users. truly.

common sence tells me yes. due to the case size difference. but i've never heard a spr 40 inperson. videos do these no justice. there is just to many camera and sound variables to concider...lol. but yeah,i will do it next time around.

I have a dynomax race muffler I bought from summit racing. That this is loud as hell and I think it has a nice deep tone. I regularly set off car alarms in my college parking lot. The best part is the muffler was only like 40 bucks.

but research video clips, iirc they get real tinny and pitchy at high rpm on a the 4.0.
wich i think is the reason i didn't go with them.
1998-red-xj... are they pitchy or raspy in higher rpm????

I don't think they are raspy. They do however have a drone at highway speeds, but I love hearing my exhaust so that doesn't bother me a bit. I like the 40 dollar price point because if I ever smash it on a trail it doesn't cost me much to replace. My cat was rotted so that is long since gone. I am no wizz with YouTube but if I can remember to I will get a video of it sometime this weekend and post it up.

I got a super 44 on mine now and have a "super high flow cat" and it ain't loud at all. I used to have a piece of 2.25" pipe replacing the muffler, now that was loud and sounded like a tractor but I got tired of having no torque.
I'd say glasspack or flowmaster 10 series would give you what you're looking for.

I've got a flowmaster 44 with a hi flow cat and performance curve tail pipe, I'm very pleased with the sound. Here's a clip.
