this is true the zj are infamous with having multiple electrical problems and at the end of the day if its just a weekend wheeler its not worth dealing with all those possible issues

So what kind of lift kit should I get? I did a quick search and found this: http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_...lift_kits.html but I'm sure there's a better site you guys would recommend.

And also, does anyone have/have pictures of a Cherokee lifted at like 3'', then maybe a little higher? Just so I can see what it looks like at certain heights.

Nice! So that's the 3'' lift you have in your sig? It take it you bought it online? How much was it?

Also, is it better to buy a lift kit new? I don't mind at all, but I see higher lifts are more expensive, and maybe someone is selling a higher lift, used and cheaper. Unless that's not something you do.. I'm a computer guy, so when I buy something to replace something, I usually sell it.

Would a 3'' be nice? I kind of hate being so low to the ground in my Patriot, that I wouldn't mind sitting higher. But how high is too high? Haha.

Edit: I was reading up on lifts, and was wondering what the differences are between these two lifts:

http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan...ode=sus_xj_kit

http://www.quadratec.com/products/76017_810.htm

I see that they appear to have different parts, and one is more than the other.

And thanks for the link!

Thanks!

I totally agree on the sitting high thing. I'm 6'4 i need some height in my vehicle hah. I love my 3 inch lift. I don't think its too high, and i dont think its too low. If you however go over 3 inches in lift you will have to do other things like drop the transfer case, get an adjustable track bar, and do short or long arm kits. These make it cost more money and are more things to install.

When looking at those lift kits the rough country comes with lower control arms and Front track bar which the rustys does not. I have a rustys 3" AAL and it works well for me. Its my DD and off-road vehicle. My best friend also has a rustys 3" AAL and no problems for either of us.

When you end up getting a kit. GET the steering stabilizer as well. Its an upgrade. Doesn't say you will need it, but i would recommend it.

If you have the money get a full leaf pack. not just add a leaf. Easer to install and all.

It is better to buy a new kit in my opinion. Some guys on here will tell you to put together a budget boost. Thats hard sometimes to find the right parts. Also like buying a used lift kit, is like buying a lifted jeep. Never know what someone put it through. I would only get a lift kit if you were getting it from a friend.

When deciding on going higher or not, its up to you. if you want it to be your off-road rig and thats it, and you want it to crawl over anything. then go higher.

Good luck with your decisions. Hope the links helped so you could figure out what height you want.

Yep, there is nothing wrong with wheeling in comfort.

Hmm, alright, thanks for the info! I was looking around the forum, and couldn't find anything on the best sites to look for kits and stuff. I wouldn't mind getting some prices in mind. Or how much roughly was your stuff? Like the lift and stabilizer. What are the differences between the two leaf packs?

Also, I'll plan on going for a 3'' lift since it seems to be a nice height. How do you sit around other vehicles? Like obviously higher than cars, but what about compared to like the Liberty or a truck.

Thanks.

You get a forum discount if you order through rough country if thats the company you are looking into. So far as height goes it's higher than the liberty and about the same height as ford f-150s and such, maybe a little higher.

If you go with rubicon express like I did you are going to pay a lot more than rough country, rustys. etc. Mine was 760 for the kit plus another 100 for shocks.

Mine all together was around 340 i believe including shipping.

Leaf pack means you get a full leaf pack. Just remove the old leaf pack and install the new. The AAL you have to put the leaf in with the other leafs.

I sit pretty good next to other vehicles. like he said. about teh same as f-150. higher than trailblazer. higher than liberty definetly

Hmm, why is the rubicon a lot more than what CFarr did? Is it like the quality of the parts and stuff? Or are different lifts used for different things?

Really? around $340 for everything? That's not bad.

That's also good to know how high you are compared to other vehicles. I take the tires don't add that much to the height? Even though I plan on getting some nice on/off road tires.

Thanks. Also, not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but I do plan on keeping the Patriot, so I'm going to start putting money aside for the Cherokee and the lift/upgrades, so I can hopefully do it all within the same time.

What are you talking about? 97-99 are the years with the 29 spline 8.25 instead of the 27 spline they used before 97, without the aluminum head and low pinion d30 they switched to in 00. Not to mention cupholders. Some parts are cheaper on the 97 than on the 98+ because for some god unknown reason they seem to have changed the connectors on half the sensors in 98. Why avoid a 97 or 98?

Its pretty much quality. You get what you pay for. I have used rustys and rough country lift components before and they just arnt the same quality as my current rubicon express stuff. Im not saying they are really bad or anything but I believe that when it comes to wheeling I want the best parts out there, especially because my jeep is a dd.

And no different lifts arnt really used for different things.

Would I be fine with the cheaper setup? I won't be doing a lot of wheeling, and when I do, nothing too extreme. And by DD, you mean daily driver, right? I plan on driving it around quite a bit, too.
