I'm gettin er tomorrow
I had a university student come and look tonight that had enough to pay the $4500 or go to school, but couldn't afford both. I talked him into buying a cheaper one and gave a bunch of pointers. He had looked at a couple and started ranting about how mint mine was and I should ask more. I think your Dad will be happy with what he sees.

The truck is mine!!!!!!!!
I live in BC but work in Alberta for a 2 week shift so I got my dad to go check it out for me, he's seen a couple Cherokees with me and I told him a list of stuff to look for. He called me after viewing, I agreed it was all good and it'll be sitting in my driveway when I'm home on Tuesday. I'm a very happy camper!!!

I am a newbie but nevertheless wanted to share my recent experience. I bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport, 4.0, 6 cylinders, 111,000 miles a few weeks ago. Here is how I went about it:
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Karthik
- I spent a few weeks reading up on this forum all I could learn about Cherokee XJ.
- I also read through the Haynes Repair Manual to get some understanding of the vehicle.
- Had an a/c mechanic check the a/c - cost $ 20 because I had a coupon.
- I reviewed the Carfax but it is not always complete - so keep that in mind.
- I test drove it and also visually examined for any signs of leaks and rust. I also had a mechanic (paid him $ 100) to spend 2 hours checking it out thoroughly -- everything from engine compression to fluid check.
- The vehicle had a recent smog test successful report.
- So, at the end of the 2 hours, I precisely knew what I had to work on to restore the vehicle to top mechanical condition: the rear main seal needed a fix, the vehicle had brand new winter M + S tires (BF Goodrich) but i preferred getting another set of BF Goodrich all terrain, all season, changed the transmission mount, did alignment, changed fluids (transmission, brake, transmission, coolant, power steering fluid, and brake fluid flush), changed new shockers, had a tune up done. The Cherokee also received a power wash and is completely free of grime and grease residue.
- Now, I bought the vehicle for $ 5,200 and spent another $ 2,000 for all of the above. My objective was to get the vehicle into the best mechanical shape possible so it would be reliable.
- I also had a detailing done on the interior and the cost above includes that too.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Karthik
