Default Looking to buy a Jeep! Need advice!

Hey guys I'm new as they come! My names Brad I'm from B.C. Canada, we have some good jeep support and many mountains and trails to support the habit! I'm a die hard Honda fan (I auto-x my current Civic) but I grew up in a jeep family. My parents got a '92 Laredo XJ when I was 7, my mom got a YJ a few years later then my parents upgraded the XJ to a fully loaded ZJ when I was older. Unfortunately we don't have any of them anymore

Anyways I want myself a XJ and I need help picking out one. I want the 97-01 style and I found a local one I like.

Black 1999 Sport with low kilometres. I did my research and I think I know what's inside it...

-4.0 with the new style intake manifold
-this ones a 5 speed so AX15 trans
-NP231 T case
-Dana 30 up front
-Chrysler 8.25 in the rear (no abs)

Link to the actual truck: http://www.usednanaimo.com/classifie...rokee_19445221

From what I read all of these components are good lol. I'm going to use it as a daily drivers that will see some light duty crawling so I don't want to lift it quite yet. I want something that will start and run like a champ every day and I know it will do so.

Input is appreciated, thanks!

Assuming there is nothing wrong with it that they're not advertising it looks like a great deal to me and I'd ****** it up before someone else does.

Look at the floor pans and rockers for rust if they are clean then go for it.

Spray it with a hose before you buy it... You don't want to get it home and find you have a mystery leak from hell.

Good point, on that note feel the carpet and headliner everywhere, when I was buying I came across a lot of leaky xjs. but it sounds like you have done the research and know what you're getting. Good luck. Sounds like a great rig from the post

I live in the most mild part of Canada, we rarely see any snow only lots of rain so no salt on the roads, even old toyotas can be found with little rust. But thanks for the rust and leaking tips.

I have a slight suspicion it could have had an accident. The jeep lettering is missing from the front and and the passenger side fender is missing trim, it could mean nothing though. I haven't seen it in person and won't be able to till next week so ill let you know how it goes, I'm excited for this thing lol

Might have been repainted by drunks, or simply debadged. Mine is missing the 4x4 and 4.0L emblems, and it's apparently a "JeeP" "cher0kee sp0rt" (Yes, the Os are sideways). Definitely check for rust that people are tryig to hide; you have no idea if that's always in been in BC or if was imported from Rustario.

Looks clean! Hope you can buy it!

Check the door gaps, the fender should not rub on the door when opening. Sometimes it's hard to judge by the door gaps on an XJ though, they're never perfect from the start.
Look under the hood at the fenderwell for any weird hammer marks or twisted and mangled sheet metal.

just take it for a test drive find somewhere to do some light duty offroading, put it in 1st and open the door with your head near the bottom of the truck. listen for creaks, clicks, etc. lay under it and tug/push/pull at everything. springs, shocks, sway bars, track bar, etc.

looks like an unmolested one. nice one man. I'd go for it.

Will check where the truck is from, hopefully local, will check door seams and visible evidence of body work ect, and lastly will check underneath at the drivetrain and suspension.

This is awesome thanks everyone!

Looks clean from the pics.
Good luck to you, I hope it really is clean as the picture shows.
Look very closely underneath, bottom of the doors, roof and rain rails that's where the rust hides .
There is no snow here in FL, but we keep getting rust buckets from up north in the auctions specially 4x4's.

A lot of flood cars from Sandy are making their way down South, be careful.
