Looking to buy what appears to be in good condition 01 xj just has an airbag lamp on ... is this an easy fix or more trouble than its worth.

runs good needs minor work he stated the airbag light is on and some cosmetic no i have not seen it in person yet.

 

Well, it depends on why the airbag light is on. My airbag light is on also, and it's due to a bad clockspring. Try the horn, and see if the cruise control works. If the horn doesn't work, and the cruise doesn't work it's probably a bad clockspring. Haven't gotten around to changing mine yet, it's not that big of an issue to me.

 

buy it airbag systems are simple and not much goes wrong with them unless he got in an accident that sent one off and he replaced with a dummy unit....check carfax for hahas

 

Just bought mine last week with air bag light on as well. Horn dont work either, havent checked yet but i bet the cruise control is out as well. All signs of a faulty clockspring. They can be had for i think $110-150 new. I wouldnt worry much about it, inspect the vehicle yourself, or have a knowledgable friend/family member do it. Dont trust car fax. I sold mustang wrecked with a clean title. The buyer coulda fixed and sold it again with a clean title and it was tweaked hard.

i know 2000s had head gasket issues

any advice what to look at other than the usual?

well if something is messed up then that is a price negotiating point...he wants 1900 and it could cost for example 400 to professionally repair...offer 1500
