Default Looking for advice on a 2000 XJ

I am looking for advice on increasing the off-road ability of my 2000 Cherokee. Right now it is totally stock and my 16 year old son is the primary driver. I am thinking rocker sliders, and a swing arm tire carrier. Not sure what else to do to it without spending a bunch of money. Let me know what you would do if you had a VERY limited budget.

I would go to the junkyard and put a solid budget boost lift together. There's a really good thread on here about what parts are known to work. Guaranteed you will increase the off road ability greatly..for MUCH less than the cost of a swing out tire carrier Happy Wheeling

A swing out tire carrier wont be cheap. Most aftermarket one run anywhere from 700 to 1300 bucks. You could do a lot more with that money. Hell you could buy a 3" lift kit with that money. Then spend money on tires etc.

How much lift would that gain, how much do the used parts usually go for, and how long does it take to put them all on?

A few hundred or so. Just depends on your junk yard. Or you can just buy a budget boost with coil spacers, lift shackles/add a leaf.

I have already been thinking about that. I have pretty much decided that I will probably fabricate a new bumper and the swing arm tire carrier that goes with it. Will probably add air fittings to the bumper as well so that I have a permanent air tank built into the bumper.
