Default Locking A Dana 35- Good idea or bad?

Is putting something like a Detroit Locker in my Dana 35 advisable?

You could do it. I'd say at least getting a 8.25 to put in.

depends on your style wheeling if your hard on your rig i wouldnt waist your money on that axle and swap for a chy. 8.25 or better a ford 8.8 from a explorer then up grade to a locker you be better off in the long run than throwing a $800 locker in pos d35 lol

Well my goal this year is to go 32's with 4.10's and some sort of locker in the rear. Right now I've only got lift and stock size all terrains...which are like 28 or 29.

I have a Dana 35 with a Detroit locker and 33's, chromoly axle shafts and a custom truss. I haven't broke anything.

if youre going to spend the money then just swap it. swap both your axles. do it right the first time
the second time is always more expensive

Sure that would be good if you can do it all at once. I have pieced mine together over the past year.

pull 2 from a JY and build them as you get money. then when you're ready to swap you'll have it all done once

Eh you can probably get away with it. Would I do it? Not when there are other stronger and just as economical options available.

No matter what you can break any axle. I know people who have the Currie Rock Jock Dana 60 with 35 spline axle shafts and they have broke them.

We can go round and round all day. People have different opinions and different experiences. It all depends on what you plan to drive on and how you drive it. Just gotta lay off that skinny pedal.

Its not an opinion that the D35 is significantly weaker than a 8.25 or D44.

Its fact.
