Default lights and sirens???

i'm a volunteer firefighter, and was wondering if there was anyone else here who is running lights and siren on their xj...
specifically wondering where you mounted the speaker, as well as control box for siren...lights aren't really an issue since there is plenty of roof room!
pictures would be great!!!!
thanks in advance!

so i am not running a true siren. HOWEVER my PA speaker for my PA and "sound box" is mounted on the front cross member behind the bumper. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow. The power plant to it is mounted under the dash. The control panel is flush with the dash.

I have an mx7000 on my roof and the control box mounted to the dash above the radio. Very satisfied with the setup. If you'd like pics feel free to ask.

I see you're from Lennon. I pass Lennon EVERY time I go home to visit family. I would recommend mounting your speak on the front crossmember behind the bumper. Remember you need to be heard from a ways away. What lightbar are you planning to run? I would mount the siren box on the passenger side of the center console. I don't have light/siren anymore but I ran a Carson Defender remote siren with a Federal Dynamax Speaker and Sho-Me (Able 2 Products) LED Minibar. It worked great, and the Defender had a Wail/Yelp/Hyperyelp and Airhorn. How long have you been in the fire service?

thanks for all the replies!!! sorry i haven't updated this lately, i've been busy not only getting all the electronics hooked up in the xj, not to mention a full kitchen remodel per the wife's request!!!

as for what i came up with on the lights/siren situation....

i was given a galls street thunder remote mount siren, a dynamax 100w speaker, as well as a code 3 dual rotator beacon....the siren was all there, with the exception of the switches....and the beacon needed a power cord run to it...

i ended up mounting the speaker behind the bumper as recommended on here...seemed to be the easiest, most logical place for it...facing forward, the sound inside isn't bad, but definately loud up front!!!

i wired up the rotators using a cigar plug cord from radio shack, its nice because it has the on/off switch right on the plug so it's not constantly "hot"...

as for the siren controller, while it has + and - to the battery, it required a switched power for an on/off relay, i hooked this to the cigar plug wiring, so that when the lights are off, so is the siren...

while i was at radio shack, i picked up an aluminum project enclosure box for $3, and a couple of switches one is on/off/on, and the other is momentary on/off/on.
the first switch is for the wail and yelp functions, and the momentary is for the air horn and thunder functions.
there was also plenty of room in the box to mount the switch for my driving lights.
the box is pretty large, and i think i may go with a smaller one.

i will get some photos of all the bits and pieces so everyone can see...

firstime....where are you heading when you pass through lennon??? let me know the next time you pass through, i'll give you a tour of the fire hall!!!
i haven't been in the fire service too terribly long, i just completed my year of probationary firefighter status, which is why i finally needed to get the lights/sirens sorted out!

thanks for all your help, and i will get pictures up real soon....

Chris,
I grew up near Saginaw actually. So if you just got through the first year probationary then are you certified at least FF I? The reason I ask is one cannot run emergency traffic until one is certified at least FF I, and has emergency vehicle ops class and the driving course. I may take you up on the tour of the fire hall - I've always wondered where it was; Lennon isn't too big. lol. I've been in the fire service for 5 years now, and I LOVE it. Be safe, and if you need any other advice for your XJ, let us know!

Cool Cool Cool. I don't know if you guys run medical calls or if you ever drive ambulances for the local ambulance company - but the state is now requiring another certificate to drive EMS vehicles; this is outside of the rodeo. It's kind of a hassle. lol.
