hello, I'm new here. dont know if this is the right spot to post this either..lol anyways. would a 6.5 in lift be too much lift to drive back and forth on the weekend 127 miles both ways form college? or should i do a 4.5 in? i don't want to be getting horrible mpg.. or does tire size effect that more than lift height? thanks in advance -Butch-

Tire size is what really ruins your mpgs if you figure though a 4.5 looks fine or even a 3 inch and it's cheaper and you have to put less into it plus your tires will be cheaper a lot of guys say you need axle and steering work with anything over 33's unless you wanna tear stuff up but idk my opinion is I'd rather have a lower center of gravity because those extra 2-3 inches isn't a huge deal, try using the search option almost every question has been answered and oh btw welcome to the forum

ok... first WELCOME! Now for the questions. A lift that big costs a lot to do right... and even more if you don't. The larger the tires you have the more drag they can create cutting down your mileage. This also depends on what you will be doing with it when not at school? The height of the lift and the size of the tires add up quick with mileage loss. You will also need to think about the size of the tire and the need to re gear your axles to make up for the tire size.
Will you need a lift that big with tires that size? I personally think that the 4.5 is a good height to stop at for a daily driver. Mine is at 3.5 and running 31's with a manual and I get about 16 on the highway and about 10-12 in the city. That is after I have had to re gear it also.

Also where in MI are you at? Down here in Kalamazoo.

Why do you want to lift you Jeep?? The answer will have to do with your intended tire size and expected USE. If it about the 4x4 look what you do and how you do it realy doesn't matter. MPG is mainly affected by Tire size and Gearing. Tire size determines How much lift and/or trimming you need to do. 35" tires can be run on a 3" lift with enough trimming and bump stopping. Entended use determines the TYPE of lift you need.

you dont select your lift height based on how it drives, you select it based on what you NEED. Dont pick your height based on tire size either, you can fit 35s on no lift or 31s on 8" of lift.

you can go 3" and be plenty safe. I ran 31's with no lift and it wasnt bad. rubbed a little with stock flares. none with cutting and folding.
if you want to run stock flares 3" would be perfect. nice and cheap compared to 4.5 and up!

Power is still fine. just noticeable. flex should be fine. I ran trimmed fenders and no lift and wheeled it pretty good and no rubbing.

I run 3" and 31s with about an inch trimmed on the fenders and still rub.
