Great info! Hated to start another lift/tire question/thread but wanted to avoid big and costly mistakes. ...for once. Looking at forums and the web im reading that the 3 inch requires transfer case drop and good chance of vibration, some articles say avoid blocking the rear. ....little confusing for a rookie in the lifting world. I am also gathering that the 96 was the last year before some suspension changes that go in my favor maybe?

Good on you for researching. You can do a TC drop, and be okay, you might need to do an SYE, you might need to use degree shims on your perches. It seems each vehicle varies a bit. Avoid add-a-leaf and blocks, do a full leaf spring. Get some decent shocks. Enjoy.

 

My one tip is you can go cheap on the coil springs up front typically. I found some lightly used IRO coils for the front of mine for $50. Helped me afford better shocks

I got RE leaf pack and still have a bad angle but not AS BAD.

 

Depending on how you go, you can do a 2" lift for about $100 bucks with shocks. You can do some jk rubicon shocks and get them for cheap or free. Just ask around with some local guys that are upgrading their lifts. For the front lift you can go with some 2" coils or add a spacer in there. For rear there is a couple of options. If you add a main leaf from another xj pack you will get about 1.5"-2" lift. You can also go with a relo box like this one. http://hdoffroadengineering.myshopif...relocation-kit <--- (the best relo box out there)
That will also fix your shackle or go with a set of 2" leaf packs. If you drop the axle remember to get some new u bolts too.

 

Forgive my ignorance. ....i'm learning. What's SYE?, im still curious what XJ means. Im ok in the world of old fords but lost here. I don't know anyone that even owns a lifted vehicle so I'm kinda outta luck for now. I live in the Raleigh nc area and im from the mountains of NC. Will be looking for some local clubs/groups maybe. I have for years wanted to go out on the beach to camp and such so i'm hoping to learn some tips on going out on the sand such as tire pressure and such. Also looking forward to the mountains in something 4x4. ......

A Slip Yoke Eliminator replaces this stupid slip yoke


with a fixed 1310 yoke



This lets us do away with a solid drive shaft and run a proper CV drive shaft with slip section and double cardan joint, just like the front. Pretty much required to kill vibes at extreme angles.

Okay, I got the tires on the Jeep and the Rims I ordered a three inch Rough Country lift kit hopefully it will arrive Tuesday but so far so good any tips tricks or inside that you could pass all with installing the list would be greatly appreciated. The kit as the add-a-leaf for the rear Coil Springs for the front and 4 shocks
