Lift 2wd?
I was wondering if it is worth it to put a 3 inch lift on my 2wd 1999 cherokee sport? I almost feel like selling it and getting a 4wd but it has 60,000 miles so probably won't do that.

You can convert it to be a 4x4, would be less of a hassle than selling and buying a new one and can probably get a pretty cheap front from craigslist or at a local jy

Ya my dad had it sitting around and he was nice enough to trade me even for my 2001 Tahoe with 245000 and a list of things going wrong...I like this Cherokee besides the oem GOLD rims it came with. Why jeep made gold rims I'll never know but im taking those off or spray painting ASAP.

lift it and later
to convert to 4wd you would swap trany, transfer case, front axle and drive shaft
find a parts jeep and swap that stuff in and your good to go

I had a 2wd ranger back in the 90's that we lifted a few inches with larger tires. Gave it that pre-runner look. Put a posi in the back and as long as we kept the speed up, we did ok in the coal fields. I thought it looked good.

Haha cool story!
I bought mine from carmax with 61k miles and it too is a 99. Was 2wd and the stress on the trans rear seal eventually blew and destroyed my trans. I then converted it to 4wd and it was simple. Also while buying a transfer case I put an SYE kit in myself since it was easy to work with out of the jeep.
Currently 5 inches with 32's
Ps the gold rims were ugly!

Idk why everyone thinks when you got a 2wd XJ you just have to convert it to be any good.. When any good Jeepspeed rig is 2wd, and by far they are totally badass and aren't 4wd.

My last XJ was 2wd and lifted 3.5", and my current WJ is 2wd and lifted 4". I'm in FL and avoid mud on the trails I run, so it's not an issue. These things aren't difficult to convert, but the XJ is especially easy due to the abundance of parts you can grab. If I could find a front axle for my WJ as easily as you can find one for an XJ then it would be on by now. To be honest they should have given these things at least 2 more inches from the factory because Cherokees and Grands (but especially the XJ) rode way too low.
