I have seen some cool hatches, with dividers, and different storage idea.

I want to, down the road, build one with lockable storage, a small tool box, Hi-lift and a winch on a cradle.

Here is how it sits, I throw a shovel and hi-lift when I go out boggin/ trail riding.

Here's mine, but I keep jack/shovel mounted outside since they get muddy and are unsafe if not strapped down. My most often used tools are in the pull out tray with foam keeping everything in place and not rattling

Stop by my shop, I'm just north of you and I could use input on my latest creation from a fellow XJ owner.

I bedlined the rear floor and put the OEM carpet back over it. Then my OEM floor mats go on that (they are like sponges). I have a full size matching spare, fishing pole holders on the top trim pieces on each side. Also have a row of MOLLE above the cubby hole. There is also an ammo can with a 3"x30' recovery strap. I don't have pictures of everything but here is a few.
