Sorry i was on my phone when I looked at the pics, its a d35, ways to tell what u have are, d35s are more round 8.25s have flat spots on the top and bottom, also 8.25s didn't come with abs. D35 came with either or. The 8.25s (97-01) are 29 spline 1 spline short of a d44, the axle housing is also larger and the are a bit more beefier then the d35. They are a good axle if u are running up to 35s.

The Dana 35 is notoriousely weak as far as handling bigger tires due to weak axle shafts. I'd suggest looking around in the junkyards for an 8.25 its an easy beginner swap and can hold up to more abuse. I run an 8.25 with a Powertrax locker and Yukon shafts and beat the hell out of it. No problems so far.
As far as educating yourself, hang out here a lot, Google alot, check out Pirate4X4.com, NAXJA.com etc.

well as big as I plan on going currently is 31's then eventually bigger think it'll hold up to the 31's?
well the kid I bought it from had me lol. Told all about the 8.25 and how great he thought it was, but didn't have a clue of what he was talking about and just kind of played along. Tricked me.

It'll hold up fine with 31's if you just do mild wheeling and dont lock it. If you like to wheel harder your going to want to upgrade.

nice pic, yeah I play around but don't crawl, just play in mud a bit... also you guys mentioned something about a flat spot? I took a side view of the pumpkin and is this what you are talking about? in about the middle of the cover it drops and goes flat? maybe it is just wishful thinking, wanting to believe I wan't lied to lol
