Default LED Dash Mod [92]

I've been searching for guides, but I've been coming up with 96+. I was wondering if anyone has a guide for replacing the stock dash lights with LEDs in the older XJs, like my 92. Also after seeing numerous LED sites, what's one of the better ones in terms of quality and price? Also looking to go to red LEDs to match the exterior red accents. Anyone else run red LEDs? How are they at night and stuff?

Cheers

After a lot of forum searching, I came across these. Thoughts?

I really like how they look.

Looks like gauge face replacements, not LED bulbs.

Yeah. I like it a lot more actually. I was going to do all red LEDs, but that looks really nice. I think I'll either use red or white/blueish LEDs for my tcase, shift, etc. Do I need to do anything special to have a light on my pedals?

Would I be better off with a white gauge faceplate and blue LEDs? I really like the look of that eBay one though, just not too sure how close to the picture it is. Is there anywhere else that sells the glowing faceplates?

I came across another member's dash that I really liked, 93XJLI. I sent him a PM, but he must have missed it. I was wondering what I need to get to achieve this. I like the white face plate that looks like has a glow behind it when turned on, and the other face plate that's silver. Was that painted or bought?

Hey sorry, I guess I did miss it. I don't get as much computer time with my new job. Those are reverse glow gauges from ebay, and a stainless steel dash overlay. Idk if they make the overlays anymore, I did those mods back in 06/07ish.

Not exactly but close enough. Same style, as mine but the font is a bit different.

I'm not really liking the ebay gauge set I picked up. I'm thinking of just going to all white LEDs on the dash, then maybe blue or red for my 4x4, then white probably for my auto shifter.

Apparently I need 5 bulbs for the dash, but a lot more for the warning lights? Does anyone know exactly how many bulbs I need to replace what I want to do? Or a site that has a bulb for every part would be fine.

89 wont be the same as 92. Mines a 92.

You can do the gauges, both shifters, and the glove box light with 194s. Should need 12 total for those. You'll need one 168 compatible for the high beam indicator.

The panel for the 4x4 indicator, CEL, ect use 74s but they look bad given how they illuminate in that space imo. If your HVAC controls light up (mine dont) you should need either 2 or 3 74s.

Gimme a min and I'll go grab some pics of mine. Definitely worth doing, but it's not as drastic of a change as 97+ because our gauges illuminate from the sides instead of being backlit.

edit: All the extra light kinda washes out the cell camera, but it's not obnoxious in person or anything. You'll get a hotspot at the top on the tcase indicator because of the bulb positioning. Trans shifter is evenly lit.

And here's why I wouldn't bother with the side indicators. The LEDs come through way too much and create bad hotspots. Those lights are already bright enough imo.

Damn that's perfect! Thanks a lot man! Where did you buy your LEDs from?
