If your brake shoes are worn down too far, the wheel cylinder piston has to travel too far to engage the brake. This can cause fluid to leak out the seals under pressure. I'd check for worn shoes. While you're at it, you might want to replace all those old worn out parts. A complete kit of brake hardware can be had at your friendly auto parts store, and they're not too expensive. I replaced both rears including new wheel cylinders on my '93 Laredo for well under $100.
If you're not familiar enough with brakes, you might check the cost at a local brake shop to do the job. If you do it yourself, keep in mind you will need to bleed the brakes afterwards. Good luck!
