Cool Larger Spare FITS!!!

My supervisor at work gave me a full size spare ( 225/75/15 ) for the XJ and I wanted to put it in the spare tire location but wasnt sure if it would fit. Well much to my surprise it fit well. I'm sure someone else has done this but I was just excited and wanted to share with you guys. Im sure a 235/75/15 would also fit as there is a little bit of room still with no problems closing the hatch.

I think that 30 is the max size that will fit, after that you hit the roof

Yeah and they'll probably hit the screens of the aftermarket speakers that I have installed. I was thinking that if I turned the XJ in to a light trail rig that I'd get the spare mount for the rear bumper. But for now I think this will do just fine.

This came stock with 215/75/15 but were changed to 235/75/15 (by my friend whom I purchased the Jeep from) Once the 235's need replacing I'll get 225's all around to match the spare. The difference is only what? 1/8-1/4 inch between the two sizes?

Do you have a little lift for those 225's or are you sitting stock height?

My '91 came with the full size spare. And used it for the first time (original tire) in 2008. 17 years and still had air, I was shocked.

Largest stock tire height for a standard XJ is 235/75/15. I was running 235's when I got my XJ, but switched for 225's due to crawl ratio considerations and tire cost.

Yeah I'm going to downgrade to the 225s when its time for new tires and I'll have to do a search to see what an XJ looks like with a 2"-3" lift with the 225s

couple of pics for askingx - Im in the process of fixing up this 1998 xj. Got it at stock height.. maybe even a bit low at the back, and it came with 225/75/15's on the original factory alloys. Did a budget lift (bastard pack and coil spring spacers) and it now sits 3-4 inches over stock at the rear, and 2-3 inches at the front. Still got those old 225/75/15's on it for the time being.. so it should give you an idea of the proportions.
