the following is a true story. It is still unfolding even as I type this. I will try to be brief, but I tend to ramble so if I do, sorry!
I belong to a local Jeep club here in the Memphis area. We're a friendly bunch, many members will do anything in their power to help others, especially fellow Jeepers... members or not.
The other day one of our guys was driving and he came across a man with a broken down Cherokee. He offered the man a ride home and said he knew some Jeepers who could help fix it. Here's where it got interesting. The man is a disabled Vietnam veteran who lost everything in the recent flooding... except his beloved Jeep and a few handguns.... and now the Jeep has thrown a rod clear through the side of the engine and he has no money to fix it, nor another vehicle to drive.
Our member jumped on our online forum, told his story and asked if anyone just so happened to have a spare 4.0 engine laying around (ya never know with us, LOL). He said the man had no money but may be able to trade some of his guns for it or somehow work it off.
Here's where it got even more interesting. Nobody had a spare engine but floods of members have stepped up and have offered to donate money for a replacement engine (not necessarily new, but usable) or their own time and tools to help install it. In fact one member has offered his truck for the man to drive while his Jeep is being serviced. All for a complete stranger only one of us has met. And they don't expect a thing in return, saying he has already paid them by serving his country so many years ago.
All of the details are still being worked out, but I don't doubt this will happen... if the man will accept our help.
Just thought I'd share this. It has certainly made me proud to be a Jeeper.

well we have tracked down a couple of engines, and possibly an entire wrecked XJ, all donated or next-to free! The blown engine Jeep will be towed to a members house today and the entire thing looked over to see exactly what is needed overall. The club officers are doing a donation match up to 300 dollars total, so I think we have any costs covered. If the Jeep needs anything else (brakes or minor stuff), it should be covered also.
The club is MidSouth Jeep Club, www.MidsouthJeeps.com but I think they're trying to keep this on the down-low until everything gets worked out. Here is the thread on it, but be warned there's a lot of good 'ol boy playful teasing going on amongst the members mixed in with the legitimate posts. That's just the casual mentality our group has http://midsouthjeeps.com/forums/view...hp?f=4&t=11966

thats awesome, not to many people like that around here, i tend to stop for most people in need of help on the side of the road, especially if its a jeep or mopar. I only ever had one person stop for me however. And the other week when my jeep died on the turnpike, it woulda been great if one of the bastards flying by me on the turnpike in the right lane attempting to hit me at 75+mph would have stopped and gave me a hand, after sitting for 4 hours I conviced one of my friends to come get me and my jeep spent the night
, got it back to my apartment the next day, motor is dead, suspecting a blown headgasket, but regardless with my rambling, thats a great bunch of people, really helps the outlook on the jeep community also!

sp true jeepers are very friendly but posers who like the popularity of wranglers becasuse they get some (diseased) girls every now and then. break a axle shaft!!!!!!!
