So i was involved in an accident where my jeep was hit on the drivers side and it pushed the axle to the passenger side by about 3 inches. the adjuster said it would be a total loss. then told me the value of the car is 3500. but that if i decide to keep it the salvage value is $950. so i would only get a check for 2450. is the salvage value high? i only ask because a friend of mine got his 2000 cherokee totalled out and his buy back was 400 with more aftermarket parts.
My '98 jeep xjs was totaled as well and i am heartbroken. It was in MINT condition with under 100,000 miles on her.. Someone hit her on the rear passenger side and broke a leaf spring, popped out the axle and well...ugh - you know there is hidden damage...! The insurance company is giving me close to $5400, and to buy it back with a salvage title they want $850. I dont want to let it go but the hassle of fixing it and finding more wrong with it is holding me back. I live in nj. I am just a grandma who loved her jeep - i found this forum googling the salvage worth and just wanna say i also know that owning a jeep is a special thing! She was good to me! She always got me home safe no matter what! Maybe i will find another...i hope!!! If the buyback was closer to $400 i may have gone for it, but i am on a very limited income. Oh well, i know there has to be ANOTHER xjs out there waiting for me! I named her Jeep Trick, because the first song i heard on her radio was 'surrender' by cheap trick... she was red and beautiful, and i got many complements on her from other xjs owners.
EDIT JULY 19 2017
i went for the $850 buyback. They gave $4400 plus the jeep which cost $707.00 to fix mechanical damage, not body work (which was about $800 max to fix). So i kept my baby which RUNS JUST FINE with some suspension parts replaced. Had a thorough exam - We only needed a leaf spring but we revamped the shocks and all that in the rear. She runs just fine! So so glad i didnt let them junk her!!!ANOTHER JEEP SAVED FROM DEMOLITION!!!

Why am i surprised the insurance will total it out for $3500.
And $5400 for another one totaled out!
If it were my deal, i'd take the $3500 and run then look for another one.
Maybe my 17 year old XJ is worth more than i thought!

You were right. I bought mine BACK (98 XJS MINT CONDITION B4 ACCIDENT 70K MILES) for $850 and fixed her for $707 i got to keep the jeep and $3700!! If not fixable, piecing her out would have made me much more than $850. $850 seems high but these jeeps are GOLD.
