Not true that it'll break, though. I 'know' someone who's had their '93 buried before.
There isn't a stop pin, so it'll just spin around all the way to 0 again, which would be something like 140mph. I'm fairly sure you'll only hit that speed if you drive off a cliff, though, since XJs have the aerodynamics of a brick and aren't geared for it.
Looks like I was wrong. When did they go to the 100mph speedo? Probably either '96 or '99, right?

Since nobody's giving you a straight answer...
96 and below had speedos that only went to 85. 97+ have the speedo that reaches 100. Not sure about 96 and below, but I know that 97+ can get beyond that, as difficult as it may be But you dont have to worry about breaking your speedo, more like the rest of the jeep lmao.

Is the speedo limited to 85mph going to be a deal breaker for you? You will rarely see anything over 75mph anyway.

I'll admit that I've been up to 85 more than a couple times. The fastest I've gone in it is about 92mph. That was the middle of nowhere on my way to Texas.
I usually can't go over 65mph because of traffic. But I try to keep under it under 75, anything over that just guzzles gasoline.

And anything over 55mph seems to use more gas with mine....plus my XJ doesnt like to go fast anyways, I dont mind it, less wear & tear...

no, it wont break it, i have got mine (4 banger) to around the M in MPH on the speedo, which i think is around 115 or so and she still had alot more. BUT i would seriously recommend against trying that because even tho she actually did still have more it was a pretty scary experience being blew all over the road like that.....three words BRICKS ARENT AERODYNAMIC, and when you start throwing bricks around somebodys bound to get hurt....
