Just to add some value to this topic..
My 99 XJ sat pretty much all winter. Went to fire it up, and the belt squealed like a pig and smoked.
Took the belt off and the alternator pulley was frozen solid.
Took it out tried to free it up, and no go. Just got done replacing it, and a new belt.
Total cost $160..
Total time, 2 hours.
Removed fan.
Loosen tension pulley.
Take off belt.
Take off alternator.
Install new.
Install belt.
Tighten tension pulley.
Install fan.
Button things up;
If the alternator was where it should be.
Total time 30 mins.. tops
