where did you get that? sure, a military vehicle at some point may have used a dana 44, but that doesn't mean they are all "military grade". most people who run them run upgraded stuff with them, obviously in stock form they are not all up to the task of hard wheeling. in fact, the wagoneer dana 44 you referenced runs a crappy 2 piece shaft in the rear. not really all that strong, hardly what you would think as "military grade"

Does this XJ see more highway or more off road?
Mostly sand dirt and gravel and some rocks. On ocassions mud cus it never rains. I usually take it offroad once or twice a week so its more of a highway use..

depends, are you afraid of revving the 4.0? if you are fine with cruising at 2800ish rpms then 4.88s will be fine.

I was recommended D44 as an upgrade over the D35 from one of the guys that threw on my lift. He was running rear D44 stock on his rig and had nothing but good to say about em. Excuse me if my info is wrong.

Hmm so then maybe a 4.54 or 4.10?? my cousin is runing 4.10 on his 33s and manages to burn out on the street but hes pulling them with a V8 tho..

Is 2800ish going at 70mph on 4.88?? I do that kind of rpm goin at 80 right now on these stock gears.
