yup, still looks like an 8.25.

you can use any ratios from 4.10 to 4.88. most would say 4.56 is ideal, although i prefer 4.88 because it keeps the rpms higher and in a better power band.

Hmm. Would the 4.88 make my rpms really high running 70 75 on the highway??

Depends on what tire size you end up with. But, yes, typically it will raise the overall RPM range.

Oh ok.. Well forsure im going with 33s but still not sure on rim size.. So i would rather go with something lower than 4.88 then??

What kind/amount of wheeling do you do?

Does this XJ see more highway or more off road?

A D44 is a military axle so if HD is what you want thats what you should shoot for. They can be hard to find just look for old Jeep Wagoneers at the junkyards they carry D44's and expect to pay a nice a dollar for em because those are like gold in the offroad scene.

Thats an 8.25 dont let someone tell you its a dana 35 and that axle can handle 35 i wheel my 8.25 29 spline on 35s and i wheel it hard and havent broken a shaft but stock gearing and 35s suck
