Default Jeep after XJ ?

May not be the right place to ask this but...if you like the square body of the XJ and had to buy something newer in the Jeep family, what model is the next incarnation of the square XJ body? Liberty? Patriot? Compass? And what years?

Honestly, having driven one, the Patriot is very close to a Cherokee. It's shorter, but the interior styling is relatively close. Handled pretty well, but as it was a dealer rental while my Juke was getting work done, I didn't attempt any off-road use. The lines are close exterior wise, and its my opinion that it was derived from the jeep community's outrage over the new Cherokee, which imo doesn't deserve the name. Just my very very limited input.

hmm tbh i think the renegade is pretty cool and close to the jeep cherokee but also the commander as well both have limited slip or something of that sorts meaning yay no open diffs!

It would have to be a 4 door Wrangler, It is the only true part time 4x4, straight axle jeep left.

what I based my answer on. True the wranglers are the last true breed Jeep's left imo, but for the styling, I stand by the Patriot.

Nope, No renegade for me, ever. Essentially a warmed over Fiat Panda.

I agree here too. I think Wranglers are the last real Jeeps but, I was asking primarily about body style, shape, something that is basically a next generation Cherokee...and not that abomination that currently wears the name plate.

Yup, I know. Even the wranglers are getting there. Fiat definitely is leaving their mark more than crysler did

My wife has been looking at the new Compass Trailhawk. They are pretty cool and do pretty well off road.

From what I see of the new ones the Unique Jeep legacy is over. The new models are just common lowslung all wheel drives just like everyone else makes. And to me Fiat has always been overpriced European junk in design and reliability. There is much better engineering out there with independent front suspension. For me it's an older Jeep rebuild or something else... Don't think I would consider buying any of the new ones just because they happen to say Jeep on them.

They ruined the legacy with these new models... They don't warrant or deserve the right to carry the Jeep name.

^ This 100%. I like the square body of the XJ, but it's not why I own it. The JKU is the only thing left in the U.S. that fits the bill.

Any Jeep that has the engine put in sideways is a disgrace to the Jeep name. I don't even know why Chrysler/Fiat markets these vehicles as Jeeps, they are basically no different than the Dodge and Chrysler minivans and crossovers.
