Default Info Regarding A Possible Purchase

I am new to the jeep world but not to 4x4s.I am very interested in buying the Cherokee as I like all the room and xtra security for items you may be carrying.Im interested in what to look for in terms of potential mechanical wear and tear and what price ranges.I see alot of these vehicles with 170000 or more miles.Maybe Im old school but a vehicle with this many miles is a potential liability. That in itself is not bad as long as I can buy at the right price and have an understanding of potential repair costs. In addition,Id like to know if there is alot of aftermarket support regarding 4x4 addons.I am in the Phoenix,Az area and would appreciate any advice. Please respond here or email me.Thanks.By the way,Im probably going to use this for daily driving as well as 4x4ing.

There is a lot to say on this subject and the best advice I can give is to search, search, and research. There must be dozens of topics just like this. Not trying to be rude at all but I can tell you that before I purchased mine a year ago all I did was search this forum every day before I purchased mine. Quick answer is look under the jeep around the trans for any oil dripping from the bell housing and trans cover. check the axles for leaks. Open the hood and check all of the fluids and if at all possible try to meet the guy early enough that you could be the first to start it. There is alot that can be hidden if they have let warm up or run a little before you get to it. Other than that just use your brains and listen to your gut. If it doesnt feel right move on.

Oh and before you take it to a mechanic find one who knows something about these rigs. there are a lot of them who will tell you these things are junk and start building a repair list for you. This will ruin your day fast if you thing you purchased a lemon. Find a guy who knows Jeeps and understands the little things about them.

As for after martet parts i would bet that the cherokee is probably 3rd to the wrangler and tacoma. But has so much.

These engines are great engines. Most give a easy 200 before giving out. And whats so great is when yours craps out you can run down the JY and grab you another used one for dirt cheap. These engines were in every(almost) vehicle jeep made for 20 years!
