I need Help (Tips)
OK, so i'm looking on craigslist to hopefully buy my FIRST Jeep Cherokee. But all of the ones i find all have around 170,000 Miles. Now is that bad? What is a good range of mileage i should stay within?
Off Topic Question: I just got a CF account and when i want to go and read some of the threads that have over 1,000 replies it won't let me? Is that just because of my computer? Or do i have to like "earn" it? ha I just don't understand.
Plus if anyone has some general tips i should know about buying a jeep Cherokee,or just the Cherokee in general, I'm all ears and willing to learn!

Bought mine with 175,000. Barely broke in!!! Runs like a champ. From what i read, stay away from some of the most recent years because of head gasket issues. '00-'01 i think? Also if u can avoid the years with the uber stupid bendix9 brake system. I am dealing with that now on my 91. But that said, any xj can be a good deal, despite the issues it MAY have. Keep studying and find what u want. Do the research here and enjoy!!! Hope ya find one soon!

I'm 16 too
My parents were complaining about the milages also. Once you should them or let them talk to other jeepers they will understand.
One word of advice. Gas... You better have a good source of income.

179k on my ZJ, still runs like new. You can get an easy 300k out of a 4.0 with just regular oil changes and tune ups.

my zj had 269k and ran like a champ. had been overheated, ran out of coolant, ran on its side, low on oil etc.
my last 2000 had 140k and was still a baby.
my current 2000 has 187k and doesnt use a drop of any fluid. runs like new.
also, the head issue with the 00-01 isnt something that is just going to happen. they are more prone to cracking IF they are overheated because the casting is thinner. you can also look and see if the head has that casting number if it really bothers you. not all of them did.
I have not had a problem, it has also not been severely overheated. but with almost 190k on it I dont forsee there being much problem any time soon.
