What exactly do dual steering dampers do? Do they only act as a D.W. band-aid or is there another purpose? Just wondering sorry if it has been asked before.

 

they are there to "dampen'' road vibrations and bumps thru your steering. it also hides worn parts.

i refuse to put one on my jeep personally. if your alignment is good and all your parts are in good condition, you dont need one. i dont want something hiding worn parts from me.

 

until the day your tre wears while you're hundreds of miles away wheeling, and need to drive home.

yeah, some say you don't need one, but if you inspect your steering parts before you venture out, you will catch a worn out part before you even leave.

me personally, i won't run without one. matter of fact, i bought a coil over dampener to have that added insurance.

Dual stab's was an 80's fad.

 

Don't run one but I don't see much pavement either. Just makes the ride a bit more cushy.

lotta spare parts if you're gonna carry one for each component under the rig.

if that did happen, sounds to me like I would know my tre wore out cause i can feel it and its not being hidden ,you wont know a thing about it cause your super dampener did its job!!

lol.... your tre's will not wear faster with no dampener. and a coil-over dampener? c'mon man.

 

yeah, i dunno. i put everything brand new on there when i did my long arm upgrade. did an alignment, had some wobble. not much, but i was heading on a 500km trip to trail guide for a large event. took it to my buddy's shop, had it digital aligned, more wobble, so shop had the coil over unit there, figured, what the hell, installed that and could drive 100kph while hitting bumps, no wobble. hands off the wheel driving.

so i dunno...

 

Caged is on the right path. I have heard in rare occasions you can have a brand new front end and still experience wobble. A stab can help solve/prevent the wobbles. Is it the cure all? No. But it some case's its all you can do.

Food for thought, the '05 and newer Ford SuperDuty series was having problems with front end wobbles with under 20k miles on the rigs. What was Ford's fix? A high pressure steering stab.

 

A coil over steering dampner? I need to see pictures of that. The coil spring would only compress on right turns, and push the draglink to the left when not turning.

That's neat looking. I just wanted info cause a buddy said that duel dampers would help stiffen my steering a little, but I thought it was a waste of money that could go towards long arms to get my caster corrected. Thanks everyone for the info.

 

If your steering is loose then I would check the steering box. Dual stabs will not fix whats broken.
