Default hypothetical driving scenario - what would you do? Low or High

I've heard many different people saying many different situations of when they would use Part Time "High or Low". So many of them contradicting one another.

I suppose this question pertains to at what speed (or more important RPM's) can we go up to in "Low".

So here is the scenario.
a few weeks back we had some major storms here in SoCal.
I went mudding at Hungry Valley Recreational Park.
The terrain here is mountainous, and relatively smooth.this day was muddy like we hardly experience here.
I was gunning it up this one hill, making it 3/4's of the time to the top. Many vehicles couldn't. My MT's we're digging really well.
It was necessary to seriously get through the mud bog to even reach the nice smooth slushy muddy hill (seemed like small mini smooth mountain).

I was in Low gear cruising at low speed (10 mph and below on average) before these hills.

On the hills When continuing to gun it and towards the very top just sliding around moving sideways like on one of those fake surfing machines. It was great. But I can't help but think of the RPM,s which must have been close to redlining, many times.
Was this bad for my ride, as opposed to being in High.

I understand that the Low has major torque. However is there a speed limit that one would want to stay below in general. I read one person say don't go past 25, while another states that if on the dirt with any slippage or obstacles he uses low.

What are the general guidelines?

But please do tell me what should I have been in in this very situation?

Thanks!

I drive by my tach. I try to keep the RPM as low as possible while at the same time not lugging my engine.

Now that I have a trans temp gauge I find myself in 4lo a lot more because it keeps the torque converter locked which decreases trans temp...a lot.

Watch your RPM gauge during normal street driving conditions and try to find the right gearing to match that off road. If you are driving down steep grades a lot and are always on the brakes, that is another good time to be in low range.

Running up against your rev limiter all the time isn't the best for your jeep or your wallet when it comes time to fill the tank.

I understand.
However my question was in this one case can I rev the engine in low gear for some time. Or, if revving the engine despite should I be in Part Time High. how fast can you go in Part Time Low?

You can go as fast as your rev limiter will allow. You won't hurt the drivetrain. It's just not that good on the motor.
