Dylan wanted to see a pic of a weld and somewhat, what one should look like to compare to his own so Brandon went out at night and put a weld down to get a pic real fast for him and being the nice respectful guy he is he didn't want to be making a lot of noise later at night and pissing off his neighbors trying to clean off some scrap metal to show him a weld real fast. Not like he was trying to build something or he was telling him how to do something just getting the guy a pic. This all coming from the guy that was showing a pic of aluminum weld and trying to compare the welds and methods to flux core welding
Ok need to get some things ready for going fishing in the morning.
Dylan good luck with the welding man and look up some vids, let me know tomorrow how it is going.
Brandon get a hold of me tomorrow and let me know the how and whens I can get the jack and jack stands so I can get started on the front axle as much as I can and let me know what day you are wanting to come over to help get some things done. Need to find a engine hoilst though I haven't heard back from Robert
Brutalxj try not to get to worked up over this welding thing here and what is said it is all in fun and games man and in the end we all are trying to be nice and help out the young kid here with his welding adventures

No to run hard wire you have to have gas, the gas is the shielding for the hard wire just like the flux coating is the shielding for flux core. The auto arc 130 can be set up to run hard wire with a gas but you can't run hard wire with out gas. Don't worry about trying to get everything at one time to get set up for hard wire and gas, get the welder thenkeep practicing with flux and then when you have to money to get the gauges, hoses and tank for running gas you should be doing pretty good with flux by that time and then will be able to run the hard wire with no problems.
Knowing how to run flux has its advantages, it is a lot easier to run flux outside and in the wind because there is no gas to have to try to keep on the weld to protected it while it cools off, that's what the flux voating is for. Just don't forget to clean off the flux coating when you are done lol

I love forms everyone always thinks I'm pissed lol. Sorry to disappoint. But back on track did a little welding at work today and took a few picks. India can't seam to read a blue print lol. Not my greatest welds but not my worst ether. Also took a pick of how I set up the welder don't think it will help since the welder at work is a old Miller running like 480 or what ever volts. I set the 210 up different then this but it might give you an idea. Oh and I posted up a pick of the aluminum welds just so he could see basically what a weld should look like. Buy that I mean not look like a caterpillar sitting on the steel. A weld that looks like it is setting on top of the steel is not a good weld end of story. The heat induced rainbow is a good indicator that it is a good weld. There should be one on the back side too.

You are right you don't want all of your weld sitting up on top of the metal but at the same time you don't want it to be to flat or worse yet concaved in, there should be a slight hump to the weld. Yes looking for the ranbow or heat discoloration is a good way to see if you are getting good penatration in the weld. Just don't want Dylan trying to get his weld to dig through the metal lol.
