How wide of a tire can I have on a stock xj with soft 8's

235's are about 9 - 9.5" width, If you go to 10.5 or greater, you can probably rug your control arms. You need more backspacing, perhaps a set of Spidertrax 1.25" spacers to stop the rub or rims with more backspacing.

You can go up to 12.5 wide i personally am running 31x10.5s on mine, and my friend is running 12.5 wide and they still fit great

12.5 does not fit great. My buddy has 12.5 maxis on stock rims and its less than a qtr of a inch from tubbing front arms and rubbing leafs on the rear.

Yeah that's stock rims haha he's talking bout soft 8s that having better back spacing
