ok so, im wondering if anyone knows a trick to unlock the ignition, before i start hammering it with a screw driver! because my buddy and i were working on my jeep 89 xj, and my buddy was at the wheel, he broke the key off in the ignition. key split in two right down the middle of it so the teeth are still in it. wont turn now.

basically i want to know if there is a way i can easy way to unlock the column so i can at least turn the wheels so i can push it into my shop.

also does anyone know a way i can by pass the ignition so i can put in rocker switches and kill switch because i am turning it into a trail rig, i dont want to have to use the key anymore

my buddy has an 89 aswell, and from what he told me because his ignition switch failed once. said i needed a whole new steering column? is that true? and punk said he wouldn't pay to fix it even though he busted it.

 

take the covers off and see what going on in there it could possibly be built into the column. since your ditching it anywase find a way to cut it out. wiring should be easy once you figure out what wire does what.
