Default How to test 4wd on cherokee

Ok so I my be buying a new Cherokee from eBay. I need to know how to make sure the 4wd is in good shape. What questions can I ask the seller to test his knowledge and skill of his Cherokee. He says the jeep does not make any noise in 4wd and drive quietly and is amazing.

Engage 4x4. Then turn wheel really sharp either way and drive it a couple yards. If you can hear a popping noise then 4x4 works.

Well it might not make noise when going straight. The guy probably knows that its normal for 4x4 to pop when turing hard so he wont count that as a noise. I hope everything works out for you and this Jeep.

It looks pretty nice. However, the current bid is at $4800 and some change. Mine was almost identical minus the 5-speed, with 50k less miles, and i paid $3500. Honestly, i'd pass on that one, and look on craigslist.

If you really want it, then get it. But, IMHO it's a little too expensive. Personally I wouldn't ever buy a vehicle without test driving it first. It's your call though.

I agree with you 100% but it's very hard to find a Cherokee with a 5 speed and 4x4. Louisiana is also short on that and the only one I know of is sitting in the same place it has been for the 6 months+

while I agree that we all want to be able to trust the seller with honesty, unfortunatly unless you can actually test it fully to make sure everything is functioning properly that is an awful lot of money to hand over to someone you don't know...your choice, but I would be hesitant especially with a 4X4...Craigslist is a great place to find one more local that can be looked over and will give you the opp to neg on price.

Being a mom of a grown son, I tend to ramble on with advice...some good some...well you be the judge. Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Don't forget to ask if it has abs, if it does, then it has a turdy five. He considers 170,000 to be low mileage for a 99?

Yes. Lol. I would think maybe 100k to be low milage. It was also a fleet vehicle so thyself probably why
