How much do you think an ARB locked HP Dana 30 is worth?
In my search for a front axle, I've stumbled upon something of a find. There's a guy I came across who has a built HP Dana 30 for sale. It's got an ARB locker, chromoly shafts, 760x U Joints, rock crusher diff cover, LCA skids, reinforced tubes and the gears to match my rear swap.
What do you guys think that's worth?
He's asking a lot of money, but I'd be offsetting some of the cost by selling my current HP D30. On the other side of it though, the rock crusher diff cover tells me it's not a terribly "fresh" build, but I don't know that that's a big deal.

$600-$800 Only because of the ARB and gears and if it works.
I sold my pair for $1500 with lunchbox lockers, gears, front chromos, disk brakes on the rear, solid diff cover, and what not to give you an idea. ARB is a nice plus though. Remember, it's still just a 30...

sounds like a sweet axle. does it come with steering? I'd be a buyer at $1300 (if it's in really good shape) because that's all I'm ever going to think a D30 is worth. even polished. if he wants more than that tell him he can keep the ARB, as a selectable front just isn't really that important.
what's his asking price? if he is pricing the axle by adding up all the parts and labor he has in it tell him he can forget the labor cost as that doesn't exist anymore and if he wants prices for each individual part then he should part out the axle. if he wants to sell the whole thing then he should price it as a package deal
if he's asking $2xxx something he can shove off. only a sucker would give him that much. doesn't matter how many shiny parts are in it, it's still just a D30

He's asking $1500 which I thought was a little high but not sky high. My logic on the whole thing is that it's probably gonna cost me 1200ish to regear and lock mine with a lock right. This way, I'd be getting a ARB and shafts out of the deal plus I could sell mine for something. He's selling a matching rear 44 with all the same stuff. Same price.
As for steering, not included but that's no biggie because I have a brand new IRO setup waiting to be installed.

CA's a mother****er .!....!.
that's not a bad price, especially socal prices. I'd knock him down to 12 or 13 and call it good if it's good condition

Thanks for the input! You basically confirmed exactly what I was thinking. Now if only he can wait to sell it until after tax returns... Hahaha
Question: in this case would there be a way for me to test the ARB to make sure everything is good? I hear things about them leaking and I would hate to spend this much on something that needs repairs.

is the axle still installed and hooked up to the compressor? the compressor is included in the deal right? you could have him leave everything alone and help him uninstall it when you go to buy it. after checking to see if it works of course
before handing him money definitely pull the diff cover and look inside, definitely check pinion/bearing tightness, definitely check that they are actually chromos. look at all the welds. it would really suck to take it home and find out it's not an ARB at all!
other than that IDK. I don't mess with ARB

I will be sure to check all of that if I end up going to look at it. The guy seems pretty legit but you never know these days.

I would buy it at that price in a heartbeat. Would be nicer with rcvs but still... It would cost you 2-3x that to do it yourself... I run mine on the small compact ARB compressor. They are pretty cheap. Definitely not a deal breaker IMO.
If it is indeed an ARB, it will have a fitting on the top of the diff where the airline goes in.

Well, that deal lasted all of 1 day. The guy sold both axles and neither of them went to me. Gotta love being cash poor because of your Heep project.

I have found over a number of years that good deals must be jumped on quickly with "Dead Presidents" then they can usually be bought cheaper than the original asking price, after all its a buyers market.
