Kinda depends on how wide of a stance you want, and if in the future you plan on going with wider tires...if your just sticking with the 31's and dont want a wide stance then ya 4" BS would be fine, shoot im pretty sure 4.5" BS would still be plenty fine with 31's...but if you plan on going with a wider tire, or merely want a wider stance than go 3.5" BS.

3.75 would be ideal with a 10.5 - 12.5 tire. but might need to trim so they don't rub the flare or fender.
4.0 bs would be better with a 10.5 tire and no trimming. shouldn't rub.

but if you want a 12.5 tire, then need an 8 inch wide rim with 3.75 backspace and will still touch the stock lower control arm when fully turned. but not enough to really worry about. will be fine with aftermarket control arms.

don't think you can find 3.5 inch, i've never seen them.

but since a 31 is only 10.5 wide, you should be fine with the 4" on an 8 inch rim.

if you wanted a wider tire you'd go with a wider rim, not less backspacing. In most cases anyway once you're at 4" or below.

The BS on a stock Jeep wheel is 5 1/2". When i bought my wheels and tires i got 8" wheels with 3.75" BS cuz i wanted "A wider stance". I wish Ida went with like 4 or 4 1/2" cuz when i get twisted up my tires rub my flares and inner fenders really bad. If ur only gunna run a 30x9.50, u shouldn't have much trouble either way. I'd go with 4 or 4 1/2". Then again, a 30x9.50 should fit just fine on the fact. 7" wheel.

when shopping for common steel wheels like cragars, soft 8's and what not, you'll notice most have either 4" or 3.75" give or take a little less, and it really wont make much of a difference they all will clear, all that comes in to play is how wide you want your stance

My wheels are Pro-Comps, They pretty much look just like the Cragars, or Barts, or w/e, but they sposed to have double the welds and be twice as stong as any of the other ones. Plus they aint got that gay blue/red pin stripe round the bead lol. Anyway, when i odered them, i had BS choices of 3.75", 4", 4 1/2", or 5".
