Depends on how much light you want and in what patterns. I'd probably suggest 6. Two driving lights in the middle for long distance. Two fogs for close and two fogs on the outsides for the sides of your jeep. Maybe even two In the back for when your in reverse. But that's just my .02

on a roof rack 4 is the norm. your in the northeast so doing a pre runner/jeep speed style light cage with 6 lights is kinda pointless

On my old XJ I had four facing the front. I also got two of those cheap tractor headlights and mounted them on the sides of the rack.

Combination of wide angle amber and pencil beam clear across the top. 5 lights are the current optimum cause that's what the Peep is runnin, lolololol. Look at some setups and shop around for best pricing in your area. Run heavy wire (8 or 10 ga) for power supply thru a good 30 amp relay. Use your switch to control the relay. Run good grounds (I ran 2 grounds). 2 1/2 years and no roof top problems. Select what suits your taste and it will be right.

Try DDM tuning. They've got led ones for $70 a piece.
