How come my Jeep Cherokee has 8 slots?!

so when i get bored (at work, school, whenever) i go on wikipedia or howstuffworks and suck up a bunch of knowledge. so a while back, I remember reading about *****'s trade marking the 7 slotted grill back in WWII with the first CJs (as opposed to Ford's 9 slotted grill). So I was checkin out my Jeep when i first brought er home, and noticed it had 8 slots as opposed to 7. That was a little less than a month ago, since then, every time I see another Jeep, I try to count the slots in the grill. 1997-2001 XJs, all YJs, TJs, JKs, ZJs, WJs, WKs, KJ; EVERYONE of these has 7 slots, even all them cars with Jeep badges on them. So why not MY cherokee?

Just a thought. Anyone got any idears?

 

could it be that you have an aftermarket grille on there?

 

i thought that too, but....

A. the people i bought it from did not do a THING to modify it, absolutely nothing, except a steering wheel cover thing. plus the color of it matches the rest of my jeep (its not all blacked out, which i like)

B. if you look at other pictures of 96 and older cherokees (and MJs too!) they all have 8 slots as well.

so im pretty sure its the original grill.

 

I think they are original as I noticed this on mine as well. Don't worry the 84-96 XJs aren't the only ones that dont have a 7 slot grille... the CJ10s had 10 slots..

 

Mine has 10 slots. It depends on year, model.

 

Give us a pic of your grill so we can check it out. Who knows, maybe you got the special grill that was delivered to the assembly plant on the short yellow truck. LOL

Nothing special about your XJ. The earlier XJs have 10 slots, the 90s had 8 like my '92, and the 97up have 7 slots. I guess Jeep couldn't make up their mind.

 

Yea I know it's not anythig special but I just kinda thought all jeeps had 7 slots and that it was they're way of showing it but whatever, just a thought I guess.

You can make a '97+ grille fit the earlier XJ but they are not interchangeable.
