Default How capable?

Hey everybody! Was just curious how capable an xj with a 3 inch lift and 31s is? That's how mines setup, no lockers or anything. I wheel at uwharrie park in NC a lot! But that was in my 2 door jk. I've owned 2 other xjs that were stock and never had them off-road to much. Funny thing is it's almost exactly the same wheel base as my jk I just got rid of. I'm excited to take it out still working out some bugs and have a nice engine skid I'm going to fab on from the jk. I had to get rid of it having my first son on the way. this is my old "new" rig. It was my first new vehicle haha. But I am having more fun fixing things on the 99 xj. Bad thing about new jeeps is all you can do mainly is buy and bolt on haha

What are you going to try and sell us? that is not the same rig you first showed us and it is not an XJ. lol

Answer is very capable with a locker or limited slip... It's a station wagon... Station wagons have weight transfer to the rear axle.

Just ask Fred...

In my experience the XJ does better than a Wrangler that has the same size or even slightly larger tires. Go try it out and report back.

All very good answers haha no sales pitch here unless your looking for used jk parts haha. Already loving the power windows and hatch and all the extra room! Never had the back seat in the Wrangler so I could have barley half the space as the xjs cargo area haha. And that Wrangler had no lockers or slip and did very well so I hoping the xj will as well! I like to play on the rocks but I always have to drive my Jeep's home so no crazy stuff! And yes I will be sleeping in it on camping trips! Got a whole jeep for half the cost of a rooftop tent an rack for the Wrangler haha.

I've had numerous CJ5's and CJ7's. One '79 Bronco. One '90 Bronco II. And two 4x4 p/u's (still have a '99 Ram 1500 w/35's) but this is the only XJ I've had. I like it better than all the others for off road comfort. And as far as capabilities I haven't been stuck yet.

I think the XJ on 3" lift and 31s is very capable. Throw in a couple of lunch box lockers and it will surprise you

You must be shorter than I am. I would have to take one of the front seats out to have enough room.

I'm 6' 3" and sleep fine in the back of my XJ. Remove the bottom seat cushion (put it on the roof), move front seats forward, inflate twin air mattress and sleep like a baby.
