Anybody use these hood louvers from JeepHut? If so, what do you think of them?

I pulled that pick off their website, guess I should have clarified that in my post. Was hoping to get some responses from that have used them or knew anyone who has.

 

Sure some people who have used their products will share their input.

 

If they are actually functional, what happens when your driving in the rain?

 

They cool better?....JK, but they do!

After owning over 40 XJ's, and half of them with hood vents(no drip pans), I have never had a problem with rain. If you use dielectric grease in all of your connectors, there isnt much to worry about.

I cut huge holes in my new XJs hood, without vents, and still have zero prooblems.

Thats my experience.

 

Can we seriously please move past this. Engine bays are not water tight. What do you think happens during water crossings? Or simply create a drip tray. How many people do we have that have vents on here with no drip pans and run no problems?

To the OP, I say any vents re better than no vents!

 

Had a '60 Baja Bug, that had a terrible problem with it. Carried a bunch of empty soup cans with me, To cover the carbs and stinger Exhaust. When I parked it, other wise they fill up with water.

 

I've never had a heat issue with mine, but then it did come with NMCP Heavy Duty Engine Cooling as an option. There is a thread here about mods people wish they have never done. Hood vents was listed repeatedly because there was no difference in engine bay temperature. On show cars, I think louvers look great. So for the appearance factor I say, Sure why not.

 

I'll give you that, on a carb'd vehicle I don't think I'd do it. I haven't had a carb on one of my vehicles since I took one of my parents old junker, so I just don't think about that. I don't know that I'll ever own one unless its something really classic.

 

I live in a area, that snow is more of an issue, Than rain. So I've come to believe the need for cooler engine compartments. Is a need mostly found in the western, or southern states. There is a lot of times that I've driven my XJ with a foot of snow frozen to the hood, and roof. Or driven through snow drifts taller the my hood. So I myself don't see hood vents being particle. If I lived in Arizona, or New Mexico. Then I probably would. The OP doesn't have a location listed in his profile.

I know there are people who put in vents and say they make a difference, but I dont know how. A few little holes in your hood makes a difference? REALLY!?!?! Are you sure, because our engines (mines a 4.0) are built to run at a certain temp. If you flush and fill your system routinely (once every couple years should be MORE than enough) and put on a thermostat when you need one, I dont see why youd have an overheating issue (unless something was wrong). Mine runs at 210 whether its 98 out (currently) or -30 (all winter). In mid-January when its -30 here, I cant go more than 5 miles down the road and its at 210. How in the world will hood vents lower my temp? Now Ill give you that it might let some of the hot air out thats otherwise trapped under the hood, but honestly, I think this is more of a looks mod than performance mod.
