Hood Vents are a huge help. I bought my XJ during the spring and when the summer got here I had the infamous heat soak problem during the hot weather. I installed the runcool hood louvers and haven't had a single problem since. My engine temp stays the same around 210. My fan hardly ever comes on now too.

I'll do some looking around, but any ideas on sources for a decent scoop or cowl hood?

I like the idea of something like this, but I'm not a fan of the double sided tape installation. http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/jee...kee/cowl-hood/

You have pics of the vents? I was looking at the ones from genright but they are kind of expensive.

You don't use hood vents to lower coolant temps if you are overheating , that's a bandaid.

But hood vents are great for reducing underhood temps. I had issues of occasionally heat sinking while playing in the sand dunes sometimes, that issue is now gone. And they also reduce the amount of heat that connectors and other plastic parts under the hood have to withstand. Which further extends their life

I will get yall some this afternoon. they arent pretty but they work and thats all that matters...

I saw that someone was talking about heat soak... I know that this was my problem because after being on the trail for an hour or so it would start to heat up (about 220) and i would have to shut it down and open the hood and let it cool off. Now it runs at about 205 or 210 all the time and doesnt get hot on the trail at all. Worked wonders for me.
