Default HomeBrew Bumpers

Well I wrecked my XJ this week. Nothing bad, just wrecked the bumper really. So now I am on the hunt for an new one. I can purchase a replacement for around 100 bucks. I am considering some replacement options like some tubes. Has anyone built thier own tube bumpers. I do not have welding skills so any options without welding would be great. Otherwise I am just going with a stock replacement. I have searched the web but there isnt a lot of information on building tube style bumpers.

Come on guys... someone has to have some bumper ideas. I was thinking about just some straight tubes and bolting them together. It may be cheaper in the longrun just to find a stock bumper and call it a day. Maybe a stock bumper without the endcaps and rewire the fog lamps to after markets lamps mounted to the top of the bumper.

since you have no fab skills i would just get a stock one. you could buy a new non winch bumper from all kinds of vendors.

Thats what I think I will end up doing. I noticed you changed your bumper. Did you take it off yourself. I see where to take the endcaps off and the skirt but how do you get to the bolts that hold the main bumper on.

ordered a new stock bumper today. Should be here in a couple of weeks. I think I can reuse my endcaps. I am going to repaint the endcaps black to match the bumper and I am going to paint the side trim black also. Anyone got any tips on repainting the plastic trim to last.

not bad at all. you planning on keeping it stock or you gonna modify it? if you mod it mighta been more cost efficent long run to spend a little more now for a better bumper that you will use in future. if not then good find lol

I'm going to mod it a little. 2" lift in a few weeks, new bumper and then maybe some new tires in a few months. Trying to take this slow. I will do some minor wheeling, nothing serious because its a DD right now.

yeah see if i was in your position i woulda spent a little more now and gotta a nice heavy duty bumper with at least some d rings for when you do mod it and wheel it. cuz no matter how minor you may wheel it getting stuck still happens. cuz if you end up getting another new bumper thats $50 down the drain. but thats just my opinion lol
