Default hitch question

I just picked up a valley v5 receiver from the junkyard. I took it off a 90 or 91 xj. I have a 99 and it won't fit. I thought Hitches were universal on Cherokees??

Was able to make it fit with a lot of cutting and grinding. Now I just need to make my rear bumper for smoothly again

The one on my 97 came off my 91 and bolted on without any hassle, it was a drawtite.

I had to shave the corners of mounting surface off because it kept contacting the bumper mounting brackets and pushing the bumper up and not letting the hatch close. It was trial and error for me. I just kept cutting until it would all fit smoothly. Here's a few pictures of where I had to cut. Hope this helps. Let me know how it works out.

Mine doesn't seem to want to fit around the gas tank.

What did it come off of? Mine had no problems fitting around the gas tank just with the brackets being too long on the corners

Hmmm that's weird. Mine did too and it fit fine. All we had to do was trim the bumper in certain spots (I forgot about that part as it has been a while since we put it on and I have a bad memory) and the corners of the hitch.
