Welcome to CF! SJ's are awesome. Reliability is really good, especially for that age. Some (very few) came with power windows and locks. If it has these, I'd stay away as they tend to fail pretty often. The 401 is a beast of an engine. I actually prefer the 360, but that's just a matter of gas mileage. D44's are great. You shouldn't have any issues with those at all. Overall, if it's been taken care of mechanically it'll go for a LONG time.
Big thing to look for though is rust. Check underneath and all along the lower section (doors, rockers, wheel wells). If there's rust, you're in for some fabrication work. Also check around the windshield and rear cargo windows. These tend to rust very easily. If there's rust, you'll never fully get rid of it, even with sandblasting. Trust me, I know.
One other thing is parts. If you need replacement parts, they're harder to come by, but that's with any antique vehicle. If it's pretty solid with decent miles on it, I say get it.
