Default Hi lift jack Questions

Looking at getting a hi lift since my regular jack collapsed and was broken under my axle. I was looking at the offroad recovery kit to go with it and the reviews basically said its garbage. I was wondering what i need to buy to be able to winch with it and use the actual jack purpose. Im looking at the 48" with the base plate. ($40 for a piece of plastic?!? -_-) so, can you answer these 2 questions?

1- Are hi lift jacks worth it? (better than stock jack)
2- What do i need to be able to winch? (don't want to buy their kit)

Thanks y'all

Do you have built bumpers and rock rails ? If not you can severely damage your jeep jacking with it

I have a small 12-ton bottle jack that carry. I use a piece of 2x6 for a base.

I have the factory bottle in my jeep. My last jeep I didn't have a jack at all. To me it's dead weight. I do t wheel hard enough where I think I need one. And I haven't built my numbers or sliders yet. Best thing you can do is invest in some tow hooks in the factory locations and make sure you use the factory braces to add strength and not tear out your unibody.

I have a hi-lift but don't carry it because my trailer hitch is really the only place i can jack from. I also carry a small bottle jack with me. It will do the trick to change a tire but not much else.

Hi-Lift is a nice old fashion farm tool. I now use the ARB air bag Jack. Plugs to exhaust and lifts the whole rig gently. There are Chinese knockoffs that are cheaper and work well...

Honestly, if, say you took your rear swaybar out like 99% of people, and you wanted to change your rear tire on a jeep with a 3" lift, I would much rather use a bottle jack because the high lift would have that thing way up in the air and not really stable. I see the hi lifts use as more of an off road lift my tire up so I can slide some rocks under it kind of thing.

I use my hilift on the lip of my wheels then put a stand under the axle. It hasn't bent/dented the wheels I've done it with...

You need a good Jack to do maintenance and repairs to your jeep. Hi Lift is a tool to use in offroad/Recovery situations. I would use a Hi lift to get off a rock, not to put a lift on my rig. A tool to carry offroad that may save your butt if the situation arises. Not a substitute for a good jack.

Yeah in your driveway a floor jack with enough reach to lift your jeep off its wheels. And a set or 4 good jack stands tall enough if you have a big lift.Do you have front tow hooks or a trailer hitch on it?If not you really have nothing to pull from but maybe the axle tube but then that's not the best option.

I would not leave home for a trail ride or even into town without my Hi-Lift jack its required to change a tire on mine. When I had a stock type bumpers I used it with them and the attachment for that, in fact I used it last weekend when a guy was with us and didn't have one, they missed him on check-in as they are required on organized trail rides he had a stock bumper.

Before I got a winch it was used 3 times to pull me out when I was stuck once in a creek bed, not fun. One can be used for an extraction tool in case of a roll over to jack a roof up to release someone inside, or straighten bent parts.

I still use it with my winch when I need to pull 2 directions at the same time and yes I even bought the kit with it when I bought the jack a 60" Ultimate the large base is a must in soft ground.

At home I have several floor jacks up to 5 tons and a bunch of bottle jacks to 80k, to damn to carry anywhere.

I use a 3 ton harbor freight floor jack at home. I have 35"s and it gets the tire an inch off the ground if I lift it at the axle tube.

6 ton HF jack stands work well on the uni-rails. 2 ton work under the axle.
